I know some of us on here are hitched to foreign born gals, and my guess is there may be some guys on here thinking about it, or have thought about it from time to time.

So here is my experience:

My first wife was from Mexico City. Long story, but she came to visit her uncle who lived nearby and I ended up giving her rides to english classes in town, eventually marrying her (and providing her citizenship). Could never wash the "city" out of her though and we were not a good fit, me being a country boy who hates cities, her a city girl who didn't like the country. We had one kid who is now 30.

Just as things were about kaput in our marriage and a divorce was in the works I was introduced to a Colombian gal who was living in North Carolina. We corresponded for awhile and then decided to meet in a neutral site: Costa Rica. We hit it off and were married about a year later. She was also a city gal but took to country living and has been a good farm-wife and partner. We have been together/married for 25 years now. It helped that I spoke (speak) fluent Spanish and had some cultural savvy under my belt about Latinas (having lived in Ecuador and Costa Rica for a total of three years). Still, you almost never fully become "culturally literate" to a culture you were not born into.

I have had to bend a little on some things to get along, but it's all good. Some of the cultural differences actually put a smile on my face....like the time her very cute 19 year old niece came to visit. When we got her back home from the airport my wife proudly claimed "look what a hot body my niece has, look at her cute derriere"! To which I expected the niece to be at the very least... extremely upset! Nope, she twirled around showing off her tight blue jeans and laughing! I was kind of shocked. LOL

All in all, I would be very cautious entering into a union like this. You've got a lot working against it, and if you don't have the ability to be flexible on some things it almost certainly will end poorly.

Your thoughts? Experiences?

Buddy of mine hooked up with a gal here in Oregon. She was from Columbia or somewhere down there originally.

Another guy before him brought her here .......she was a washed up prostitute. Looking for a new career " gold digging "

She took that guys money and left .....my buddy, unaware of her back story , picked her up thinking he landed a prize ......woof

My buddy was married to her for several yrs . But I think recently she took her gold and went back to Columbia

Lmao......some guys never learn

Very legit. But I assume you also know some guys that married "in country" women where it didn't work out too well either?

My wife's family fled Communist Poland. She was born here not long after her folks arrived. Dual citizen, which is great for when we travel, makes the process a lot easier. She didn't speak English until she was 7 years old, but she learned English by watching American cartoons. She reminds me a lot of the NCIS character Ziva David. Speaks English well but sometimes doesn't get things quite right. You hit the nail on the head with your cultural differences comment. Took some getting used to. Unfortunately, she was raised in the city. That is sometimes hard to deal with, as folks will always revert back to what they know best. Over the last 10 years, I've slowly got her to come around to the simple country life. But I can say I'm truly blessed! Not to mention, those Eastern European women are fine grin

When I broke up with my college girlfriend, I had 2 arraigned marriages offered to me, one with a Kurdish woman and one with an Indian woman. I chose not to do either, but sometimes think marriage to a Kurdish minor princess equivalent might not have been bad.

People from Columbia and Mexico have fairly similar values to ours. I would guess, overall, marriages would work out as well as American to American. No offense to Steve, but I think Filipinas are a terrible choice for a wife. I know a lot of military guys who married Filipinas and it ended very badly in every case, but one and that likely ended badly later too. Filipinas are predatory towards men in my experience.

The new term for men who go overseas looking for wives is "Passport Bros".

I know some filipinas that are very nice gals. A lot of the problem from what I've seen is you may be expected to be helping their families out financially on a regular basis. Probably true with many more countries as well.

I believe a fillipino wife tried to prostitute herself to me in exchange for tree work, maybe it's standard for fillipino women to rub contractors chest and play with their hair. She screamed at her husband' when he came outside to "go back in the basement".

I have very limited experience in foreign women, lol, but,,,,,My son was going with a half Salvadoran girl for awhile, till she went off the rails...anyway, most of the guys at the fish store are Salvadorans, so I asked Jose about Salvadoran women....He just shook his head and mumbled something in Spanish....So...even if you are culturally attuned, doesn't mean they can figure their spouses any better.... grin

I'm waiting for AK timber tramp to tune in. Last I heard he had unburdened himself of one but was now chasing another.

Of course it would be nice to hear some success stories too.

My wife is Filipino. Been married for 10 years. She is from the countryside there and loves living in Alaska. I don’t think I could have found a better match for my lifestyle. Biggest thing was I met her in church and her relationship with God comes first as I believe it should be.
