I was talking with an older trapper a few years ago. I was asking for some advice for coyotes & fox avoiding my sets. The first thing he asked me was do you use degree deodorant? Said yes, he said that was the main reason they avoid my sets. Even if I'm not sweating or wearing a hoodie they can smell it & they steer clear. Anyone heard of this? I do get some that avoid but also get some that step on the pan.. always want more to step on it.

Ya can't miss fur if yur traps are out somewhere.
Or so I've been told.

There are numerous reasons a coyote can walk past your set, know its there and not work it. Unless degree deodorant creats a super high level of fear in coyotes it wouldn't be my first guess. But the only way to know if it does that for sure is test it. If I was betting id say it wasn't your problem but I've never used degree deodorant. I think coyotes not working sets happens more than we realize and when we do realize it its easy to believe the next we catch is the one that walked by a few days before. My experience while testing lures on camera is that the coyotes intrest is usually the highest the first time he encounters a set. My 2 cents

I trap a lot in the snow. That'll make you realize that regardless of lure or bait, some just walk on by, they know where they are going and aren't going to be distracted. But if the turn to the set but don't work it, work it and don't get caught, or avoid it rather than ignore it. Those are actually bigger problems. And my experience is the same as Seth's they show the highest interest and work the set best the first time they encounter it as a general rule.

I to doubt it is Degree deodorant but if it gives you more confidence to wear Right Guard, that may be all it takes to up your catch.
