So, I got a few skunks this weekend and need help with them. I have watch all the videos on skinning them. As soon as I got them, I put them in a bucket of the hydrogen peroxide and baking soda solution. Skinned them (with out hitting the glands) and fleshed them. Put them in the solution again and still smelling. One has been boarded for 4 days and the tail still smells. The other 2 I just finished fleshing and soaked them in the solution. I guess a few questions are:
1. Anything else I can do to get the smell out or is this normal. I don' mind the smell but one is going to be a wall hanger and my wife nose is like a bloodhound. No way she will let me keep it in the house after tanning.
2. After washing in the solution they are very wet and the flesh side is very slimy even after fleshing. I did tumble try them after fleshing but all the sawdust (walnut saw dust) is damp and built up in the fur. Am I doing something incorrect?
I will be posting some tumbling questions soon, and FYI, I am very new to this and am not afraid to diving into this and making mistakes. I learn by doing and reading what other people do.
Thanks

After tanning the smell will be gone.
I never wash them at at. They have zero smell after coming back from Moyles tannery
