Well, she finally got it done! She’s had numerous encounters with this buck, but they don’t get old by being stupid. This is her biggest buck ever and she took it with her new bow!! He weighed in at 217lbs and scored a solid 140”. She’s had one heck of a season!

My half of the county wont start for another couple of weeks, the north half where she killed him won’t start until about Thanksgiving. It’s weird how the same county can have two different ruts, but we do.

While we aren’t trophy hunting by most definitions, we do like to let bucks reach maturity. My son was up in the air whether he was 4.5 or 5.5 but since she wanted a decent buck for her first, he went ahead and set some lock ons where he hung out. And yes, we’ve gotten real good at scoring by him scoring, me scoring, and then having a certified B&C scorer score the bucks. We get within 8ths of an inch so we feel pretty confident and comfortable with the scores.
This deer actually had serious tine length despite smaller main beams. The first mass measurements were both right near 5” but dropped sharply after that. Add in a decent spread and he made the 140” mark. All our scores we post are gross only. We don’t enter record books or contests. We just like keeping our own records.
My son took my granddaughter to a stand this evening and shot a 6.5yr old buck. We’ve watched this deer since he got injured at 2.5. He was blinded then in his left eye and the left side of his antlers were basically two spikes. He considers that deer every much as a trophy as the 176” he killed last year.

Your son dresses a lot nicer to go deer hunting than I do....lol
