Inspections are conducted on animal shelters, livestock facilities, etc statewide.
Probably do same thing in Oregon.

Just talked to the sheriff again.
Semi-truck driver was following too close and caused the crash. He is in jail now.
Big truck must have had an on-board camera that was seized & viewed for the crash investigators to know that.
Or, maybe she had on-board cameras in her state car.....

And I think it's a big waste of time ........and its probably much worse here in Oregon . I'd be irrate if a " government official " came to inspect my chickens and my cat . I apologize swampwolf if I came across as bashing your wife , that was not my intent . I think she should have how ever many animals she wants , and do what ever she wants with them . It's a crazy society imo when when we pay someone to drive 4 hrs to check on a person's care for dogs.....and in doing so the poor lady dies in a car wreck .... Tragic .....and pure nonsense to me

Im sure this lady checked facilities on a route across the state. Maybe she checked other facilities coming and going.
These inspections have a commercial aspect.....this is not about someone's pet chickens and cats.
My wife has provided a service for our small community for nearly 20 years by assisting with the care and re-homing of stray, abused, and abandoned pets. There is no one else within 20 miles that does this and she is very good at the care she provides.
Every critter here, including me, is well fed and too fat, and we are all clean....thanks to her.

I get what AG is saying though. If I was your wife, I would be offended that the state feels they need to inspect my home and kennels, when all I am trying to do is "assist with the care and re-homing of stray, abused, and abandoned pets". People shouldn't have to be subjected to government inspections just for doing a good deed. I think that's all he meant, and it is a sentiment completely inline with his screen name, after all.

It really shouldn't be a govt job but it is what it is and not the reason for the poor unfortunate woman's death. You've picked the wrong hill on this one.

People shouldn't have to be subjected to government inspections just for doing a good deed. I think that's all he meant, and it is a sentiment completely inline with his screen name, after all. To operate as an animal shelter (which is required of all rescues) a state permit is required here in Georgia. Because it is permitted it is subject to rules and regs stated in that permit. The inspections are only conducted once annually for permit compliance. The inspections are not hard core, white glove details. They check the dog in & out records, the cleanliness of the facility, and the health of the dogs. This is NOT about someone coming to look at your personal kennels, or chickens or your lazy housecat laying on your porch. My wife has cared for dogs that were walking death, nursed them back to as perfect health as possible, and found them homes all over the Country. She has a large network she coordinates to find these dogs good homes amd families. But, a few we have here are our family pets and a few of the rescue dogs are very old or have health conditions that won't make for adoption.....nobody wants them. I think there are 20+ dogs here at this time. She loves to do this and never complains very much about my interests such as hunting and trapping so.....I do t complain very much about these dogs....lol

What are the chances the truck driver is an illegal with no or questionable license.
And I think yote trap hit the nail on the head and see antis point.
The government is giving you permission to do your good dead in your home anrt your private residence. And paying people to so so.
So much for land of the free. Government me harder yes please. seems like a good target for doge cuts.
Your wife should not need to be bothered to take time out of her day for inspection to so what she wants with animals on her property.
just more government over reach.
Can yall imagine the condition of some dog facilities if the so-called do-gooders are left unchecked? Humans dont all do the right thing as some of yall seem to think. If they did, the National Guard, along with ICE, wouldn't have to be sent to these crime-ridden cities. We are a nation of laws.

I understand all that Swamp. But, I still don't think it should require a permit and inspections. I always wanted to be involved in wildlife rehabbing, but the permits and inspections that that entails have prevented me from ever pursuing it. It's all government overreach in my opinion. If someone wants to take time out of their busy lives to help animals, be it cats, dogs, or wildlife, they shouldn't be required to ask the state's permission to do so.

you have to believe that there is a reason for everything and as tough as it can be sometimes you have to trust in God Absolutely! I told the wife this very thing a couple times this afternoon. I added that God's plan is not man's plan. Thanks you Sir!

Yeah....every one should be allowed to have 30 dogs in a 16'×16' open kennel with no food and water. And a couple of rabid coons, maybe a pet grey fox....and a 1.5 year old whitetail buck raised from a fawn that has just learned that he has antlers in October and is just waiting for your neighbor's kid to walk outside and kneel down to play with his toys in the yard with his back turned. Heck.....maybe everyone in the neighborhood will have a zoo like this....that'll be great!

And why I take flack here if I would post about bottle feeding squirrels that were nested in a tree I took down, or raising coon that mom was dead on the road, or rehabilitation any # of animals over the last several decades. First thing do you have a permit. Are you in the special cool kids club. I understand most people are. ignorant and have the Bambi idea of animals and reasion behind the permit crap. But laws won't stop it and you can't protect people from their own stupidity. So we just live by our own code and do what we believe is right.
