I have a YouTube channel called Nutty Gnome Homestead. Hoping to do some videos on trapping/hunting here soon.

It really is a lot of work, could easily be a full-time job. YouTube has changed their algorithm a couple times making it harder to get videos in front of specific viewers. Seems like once you get it figured out and doing well, they change it again. Subscribing is free and it really helps the creators out. Even if you only watch part of the video, that will get them paid.

camera question for you youtubers

what's a good camera to get started if your shooting some cooking videos , just use the phone or is there a better option , will be a mix of indoor and outdoor cooking of local meat products.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

really isnt a bad camera out there. Only difference really is price, features and battery life. A camera thats not a phone has better mounting options usually

Today's phones are amazing and you can do a lot with them, but if you are going to get serious about it I would recommend a good camcorder such as the Canon Vixia G70, it will video in 4k, has great microphone and you can buy a good used one for under $1000.

What microphone do you guys like to use? I hate when you hear all the wind noise on some videos. My son is doing trapping as his FFA project this year and is wanting to make some videos and maybe do some Youtube stuff. Looking for suggestions on what equipment to get him started with. Thank you for any help

Yes it is a lot of work and you have to like doing it. So much goes on behind the scenes that the viewers don't know about.
As far as people just watching part of the video, what you said is not really the case, watch time is very important. When people quit your video part way through or skip over parts, it really hurts your engagement. If you want to make compelling videos that will actually make money, you have to keep it moving and not let people get bored, so they watch until the end.

Subscriptions are nice, but if you really want to help a creator build the channel, sit there and watch it until the end. That way YouTube knows the video is good and it will then be recommended to more people.

I've got about 15 minutes while waiting for a video to render so I will take a moment to offer some advice that I have learned from 15 years of being on Youtube and watching other successful creators, some of which are wildly more successful than I am.

There are people who have gotten incredibly rich on YouTube, and millions of people who produce videos that just never go anywhere. Mr. Beast for example has become a billionaire producing videos. There are thousands of people who are making a very good living by producing a video a week or so. 99% of people do not know how to make a video that catches the algorithm and takes a ride. I read that there are about 10,000 new YouTube channels started every single day. Most of them fail because people just don't know what they are doing.

If you want to watch videos from someone who figured it out, most of you have watched the Outdoor Boys videos. His (Luke Nichol's) pattern of creating videos really works. In the prime he was producing 2 high-quality videos a week, really hard work. He quit his job as an attorney many years ago to do youtube full time and made millions. He quit making videos six months ago and youtube is still paying him $100,000 a week even though he hasn't produced a video since spring of this year. His 12-year-old son started a channel called Outdoor Tom and he's making about $12,000 a week. Their formula works!

If you want to know how to make great YouTube videos that will get watched, go to one of the Outdoor boys videos and watch how he puts it together. Once you understand this, you can grow any channel. Pay attention to his intro, logo, and his edits and how they move you along so fast that you can't even think about skipping ahead or quitting. He's a master of it, and if you can imitate it with your content you can be successful if you are producing engaging content.

I have my own formula that is similar, I have been using his techniques more and more, but I have a very small niche. My main channel has become a bear hunting channel because that's what people have proven they want to watch. I'll never make a full time living at it but it provides enough of an income stream that I keep doing it. I make more from sponsors than I do from ad revenue by far. If you really want to do this, watch channels that are successful, and analyze how they are produced. It's not for everyone, but it can be done.

I have a channel, enjoy doing it. I dont do it for any kind of money because unless you have a crap load of subs the money is almost nothing.
I post because its my time on the line, and I just enjoy sharing with other trappers and some non trappers. My reward is when someone contacts me and said they tried something i suggested and it worked. Thats what gives me pleasure. Helping other trappers.

I have one. I'm similar to Longbeard12 on why I post the videos. I have made a few $'s, but lets just say that youtube has been less than friendly to trapping channels.
