My son and I always try to get out at least once or twice each fall for squirrel hunting. Weather was nice on Monday so we got out in afternoon and again Tuesday. Was little winder than we would have liked. My son still managed to shoot couple squirrels. Only ones I saw didn't hold still long enough for me to shoot. Did plain miss one..so I got zip.
Anyways.. the squirrel posts earlier here on Tman. People ask about cleaning and cooking squirrels.
I remember to take a couple pictures while my son field dresses squirrels. I taught him how to do it that way when he was 12 years old, just like my father taught me.
We do the cut behind the tail, step on it and pull. Each squirrel is cleaned while still warm pretty much where they are shot. We try to head shoot most our squirrels. My son did find out Tuesday not to body shoot them with my 22 mag.
So here are few pictures for you of our hunt. You might notice how clean my son field dresses squirrels when head shot with 22 or 17hmr.

I put the squirrel in my small pressure cooker this morning. Be Im now old and more forgetful than I used to be. I couldn't recall how long to run them in cooker. Google said 10 to 45 minutes depending on cooker and age of squirrels. So I did 30 minutes with not to self that is to long. Unless you want it totally falling off bone to debone.
Then I did little rice flour and pan fried in olive oil. Had it for my noon lunch. Didn't come out like momma used to make. But did suck either.

Love it! I got my first squirrel dog this year, a mountain feist. Hope to knock a bunch down this season.

Happy to see you sharing the woods with your adult son, what a blessing!
