I ordered a knock off battery for my porter cable tools off amazon 4 or 5 yrs ago and haven't had any trouble at all with it. Looks identical to the factory battery and only cost $35 compared to almost $100 for a porter cable battery

A business in Hoffa, Mississippi rebuilt a few of my batteries in the 18V era. Better than new DeWalt at the time. That was 10+ years ago. About 1/2 the cost of a new battery back then.

We use generic batteries from ebay or amazon. Charge them only when i am in the garage.

This has made batteries last easily 3 times longer than before. In hot weather, keep them somewhere cool. In winter keep them somewhere heated. Not in a truck in the driveway. I have one Milwaukee bag that is all batteries. Easy enough to carry.

A few winters ago I plugged a very cold 18v Dewalt knock off battery into charger in our cabin in Canada. Ran to check on another cabin, about 45/60min. When I got back the place was on fire and full of black smoke. Almost lost the whole cabin. Battery exploded and sent burning plastic in several directions. Luckily the one that really took was under a large window so I was able to break it out and fight fire from outside. Flames were hitting the ceiling. Used fire extinguisher and snow to put it out. Almost lost the battle several times. Coughed up black stuff for days.

No more knock off batteries for me.

Lithium ion and freezing temps are a bad combination.
