Buddy called said he had a yote and 2 coons if I wanted them. I’m in the middle of stacking my boiler wood and getting ready for winter I did not think it would be worth it so I passed. Normally I’d jump on free fur but not this time things need to get done before I head south again.

I think for what coyotes and coons are going for, you made a sound financial decision.

Good call, don’t worry I need to fill the wood shed myself so you’re not alone there.

Ours havd been removed from traps and deposited in the dead pit the last few years. Not worth my limited time messing with i just want them gone off the farm.. Im to slow and inexperienced to spend so much time messing with it.

im on vacation this week part of the plan was stack wood. Raining weather is shooting that and huntin in the foot.

Trying to get some older wood split and stacked before it turns into pulp the stuff that held bark needs to get burned this year or it a waist of wood. I cleared half the landing so far with minimal loss so far. Hornets are gone so that’s a plus.

What species do you have to burn down in South Dakota?

Elm and Ash mostly with some other trees mixed in like hackberry, Russian olive. I try to pass on the cottonwoods and evergreens. No telling what you might run into as most trees here were planted by towns and individuals over the years.

No disrespect PF but why not have your kids do it to get the experience now on cheap fur. I'm sure with kids unlimited energy there is time for them to self educate.
Were not supposed to talk about dispatch but throwing fur away is okayed on this site. That always sticks in my craw a little. I'm not picking on you and your children and understand completely what you're doing. Just needed to get that off my chest I suppose. Sorry if it comes off wrong.

Though about that like seeing what my skinning machine can really do maybe try some pressure washer fleshing on the lower grade furs.

No worries. And they could, would be beter if I were qualified to teach them.. I will do good on one coon then rub hard enough the fur falls out of the next and I think it needs more off. For the amount of time I spend on it and a coon you can't sell for 2$ put up with the goal not being geting fur but removing predators. Its about removing the predators not fur. If I worked locally 40 hr a week and home every night I may play with them more. But I dont and am gone a lot. So far this year I have worked a full year and 17 weeks worth of 40 HR Equivalent weeks and have 2 months months left to go. So anyway I slice it its anouthe year I will have worked at least a year and half worth of hours or more in a year. Worse part is I have really cut hours back oct and November with vacations and only working days sceduald . But will burn it down again in December most likely.

I would love to someday be good and produce a tanned sewn finished products. But ita likely in the same category of I want to make my own bow arrows and flint heads and shoot deer with them and is never going to happen.

That's what is good here. I have been catching coon this season. I know they predict bottom of the barrel prices again but 2 months can change things a little. So been putting them in the freezer and if they are not going to bring better money I will put them up and donate them to our state trapping association for their tanned fur project.
