So I was helping a friend out that is not a trapper and set 10 traps on his place with the agreement he would run them as I didn’t have time. Those 10 traps caught 3 coyotes, 1 bobcat and 2 coons in a week and a half in 90plus degree weather. He pulled the traps because he thought they weren’t catching like they should and something must be wrong with the bait or the traps. This area doesn’t have a lot of coyotes anyways compared to most heck I thought he was doing pretty good just using 10 traps lol !

He just doesn’t know any better. Another lease member told him because my traps were painted they wouldn't catch lol! We were in a drought at the time so the ground was rock hard so even packing the trap beds as hard as you could those coons dug up a few. He thought it was coyotes doing the digging and that they smelled the paint. If that were true I’m using paint down all my dirt holes as bait lol !!

A first time trapper he should be thrilled to have that many catches. Something is fishy I'm thinking.

Give me a fish, I will eat for a day. Teach me to fish, I will eat for a lifetime

There is and I know what it is. He had another trapper he hired tell him he caught 20 coyotes off his place in two weeks a few years back. I came in right after him and drove all the roads and ATV trails with not a single catch circle on the place. I asked him did that trapper send you pictures as he was catching to confirm catches ? He said no he only saw one coyote in a trap. I set 2dz traps that week and picked up 8 the first week and 12 more transients over the next two and half weeks. So in his mind coyotes are easy to catch. That year they had the best fawn crop they ever had but I’ll bet the farm 40 coyotes didn’t come off that place that year, no way !!

Most people who don't trap hear a few coyotes at night and think their property is over run with coyotes by the dozens. Set 10 traps and don't have 9 coyote the next day and they wonder what went wrong.

That's spot on. The amount of folks that are upset because I didn't catch the 50 beavers that they know are in the pond is amazing. The cutting stopped, the dam hasn't been repaired for a week, but the trapper is dumb because he only caught five beavers.

That’s funny, “appreciating trappers”; I had to pull my few sets after just two days. Left the cable stakes in. Next few days are very busy at work and my sister is flying in. Plus it takes me a long time to skin out a catch so I don’t wanna spread myself too thin. I know my limitations
The landowner was thrilled that we got two raccoons
He called today and said “when are you coming back?”
