Hay ole son, down here in Brownsville been talking to a lot of these Hispanic hands while doing these barges , apparently gar fishing is a big deal down this way and in Mexico. Eveyone of em that fishes talks about gar.Ole boy told me there kinda a delicacy. Should come down here load of a few dozen and bring em your way , seem like they could clear all them gar up for ya

Gar have a stink about them that I don't care for. The meat is probably fine, but the memory of the stink would haunt me if I tried to eat one.
Same goes for carp, and a freshly skint nutria which smells like a combination of turpentine and diesel fuel.
