The folks in Western Alaska got beat up pretty bad with Halong. Defiantly on my mind. There is another storm front approaching. I have sent crew to the region, getting comms back up is a major priority, right now.

From all the news I've heard the Dillingham area didn't have many problems from the storm. Kuskokwim area got all the damage!

That's a good problem, Todd. Glad to hear your kids weren't up there.
Heart goes out to the villagers who lost everything, literally. Very sad. I wonder how many of them will start walking home from Anchorage? Terrible idea moving them there.

I agree moving them all to the city is a terrible idea however my understanding is several have made there way down this way and have found housing here and in Manokotak one of our outlying villages
I see a lot of snide comments on line about rebuilding their villages in the same locations yet it was the government years ago that said your kids all need to go to school and we are building the school here sooooo…

Here's a novel idea: How about they choose to build wherever they decide to build.
I mean, how many times do insurance agencies and FEMA keep re-building Florida, South Carolina, Louisiana.......?

Otterman makes a good point on the governments plans that moved more or less nomadic folks to permanent settlements; what a disaster.
I remember going through the upper Stikine and Skeena country in the early 70's, the Tahltan people where still largely nomadic. After the Cassiar road was built, the Canadian government moved the people into permanent settlements; essentially becoming rural ghetos.
