Back in the early 2000's, TMAN had an IRC chatroom that was pretty popular. I know many of you remember the days of the Pirch chat fondly. With Paul's permission, I have recreated a chatroom of that style for us to try out. I originally wanted to get all the bugs worked out before opening the chat to all of you, but it's kind of hard to work out bugs when no one is in the room, lol. So, I'm gonna go ahead and open this up, bugs and all. So, behave please... no cussing, flaming, fighting etc. The same rules that apply on forum, apply in the chat room.
Now, just like in the old days, there are multiple ways to enter the chat. In this first post, I will post the link to the chat that will work for ALL users, whether on Windows, Linux, Mac, Android or Iphone. This is a browser-based link. In seperate, subsequent posts I will post programs and apps that you can download for a better experience. Why download a program or app? Well, you certainly don't have to, but it gives you more control and options, and the big issue for me is better connectivity. The browser-based room tends to kick me out periodically, and that doesn't happen to me when using a downloaded client. Totally up to you though.
Also in a separate reply, I will give instructions to register your screen name. Do you have to? No. But keep in mind if you don't, anyone could use your name, potentially getting your screen name banned, so you may wish to.
Now, moving on.
How to Log in to Chat1) Go here.
https://web.libera.chat/?channel=#tman2) Choose any nickname you want to put in the box marked Nick (note: if you name is common, it is likely already taken and you'll need to choose a different one. To avoid that from the start, try adding some numbers or something to common nicknames before entering.)
3) Make sure the box that says "I have a password" is UN-Checked. Now click start.
4) You will get a screen asking you for the channel key (password). You will enter that in and click rejoin, and you will now be in the chat.
The Password:Paul wanted to make sure anti's could not enter the chat, and the easiest way to do that was to password protect the chat. To get the password, PM me here for it. This may generate a lot of PMs for me, so as soon as I send you the password, I will delete the message to keep space open. If you have a question about the chat, please post on this thread first. We can PM one on one if need be, but it's likely others have the same questions as you, so asking them here will provide answers to everyone.
Once in the chat, things are pretty self-explanatory. The list on the right shows you who is in the chatroom. The list on the left, shows you any messages you may have. Look at that once you get in... do you have messages showing from NickServ (is there a 2 next to the word NickServ on the left)?? If so, click on it, as it likely means that your nickname is already taken. If that's the case, the easiest way to fix it is to just type in the room: /nick your_new_nickname. So for example, if you are Savell and you get a message saying your name is already taken, you would type in the room /nick SavellSucks and then that is what your name would be changed to. To type, just write in the box at the bottom of the screen and hit enter to submit your message.
OK. So here we go. If you would like to try out the new chatroom, please PM me for the password, and then follow the directions above. The next reply I post on here will be instructions on how to register your screen name.
