Cutting firewood. Been getting the dead standing out of the way. Still got a bunch to get.

We usually do.that in February, cooler temps, no ticks or mosquitoes, and not much else going on.

Always have enough a year before we need to burn. We cut year around most from early fall till spring time. Don't have worry about ticks. I have a bunch cut in 4 foot lengths in the hills will use snowdog and sled to get them back to main yard this wintah.

Wood warms you twice

To a person ignorant of nature, his country stroll is a walk through a gallery filled with wonderful works of art with their faces turned to the wall

You may be surprised how much moisture is still in that standing dead wood. Still need to split and season it for better burning wood.

I cut my wood all in April & May some years it can extend until early June. I like to get it all cut, split and stacked to season by then. Had a bunch of Cherry wood cut down on our place for widening a gas line right of way. They cut way more than I believe they needed to cut. But I will have log wood to use for a few years now.

Yes, a lot of moisture in standing dead. As long as the roots are in the ground they will take in water. I never burn stand dead wood.

This won’t be burned until this time next year so it should be good to go by then regardless of moisture currently.
