That is 10+ deer per year every single year for 50+ years. How many deer are you allowed per year, even if you are hunting multiple states.

I have hunted 5 different states successfully, starting in the 1970's. Alaska, mostly, (by far), Oregon, Arizona, New Mexico, and California. Alaska was by far the most generous with up to 6 deer per season, where I spent most of my time, followed by California, (when I hunted blacktails there, you could buy 2 tags), with the rest being a limit of 1. Most of the nearly 40 years I was in Alaska, I took 3-4 deer annually, and I did indeed take 2 in California, twice. I'm not sure how many that would total, and I know plenty of guys in southeast Alaska that have taken many more than I, but those are serious limits in that part of Alaska, and not many folks from down south even hunt there at all, and those non-residents that do have much smaller bag limits. Now if you are moneyed up, hunt lots of private land that doesn't have state bags, are involved in culling operations, and travel the country shooting deer, I suppose that, after decades of doing such, 600 legal deer might be possible. On the other hand.....................?

How old are you Bruce T? Simple southern math you have to kill 10 deer EVERY YEAR for 50 years just to reach 500 that’s a lot of deer. One season being sick, working,or bad luck and it goes up 64.I hunt alot of states.8 years while living in Virginia I was averaging 25 to 30 deer a year.

Surprised it is not more. I hunt with some forester collogues that manage large timber holdings. One parcel, we take on average of 50 deer a season, almost all does. I take 3 doe in my timber and travel to PA and get 2-4 deer at the farm. All this hunting and it does not seem to put a dent in the population. Thank you

Not to argue the point but Virginia has a 6 per year bag limit. Even using urban bonus tags no more than 6. You must’ve been poaching Mike you say we killed 50. Different state and sounds like several guys. You killed 7 at most. I’m a numbers guy. Bruce but if you started at 15 I doubt the herd was that big that bag limits allowed you to legally kill 12 per But I’m sure you have killed your share. Great job Not true. You can keep buying tags for private land

Great job The forester gets DMP's from NYSDEC and strict records are kept on sex and age. The hunters have a buck tag and 2 doe tags along with the DMP's. We usually have 10 to 12 guys hunting the timber.

In Alaska, the employer and employee pay into an unemployment fund. I doubt they pay the whole bill tho. In the late 70s/80s a guy could work a few months then pull unemployment for over 6 months. Nowadays it's somewhat more restrictive but still easy money once you get in. I think you only get 16 weeks, maybe one extension. So unemployment is somewhat different than welfare.

It's typically the employer who pays into the state unemployment insurance program....not the employee
And it doesn't come from tax payer taxes

And it doesn't come from tax payer taxes It does when the state fund runs out of money, as happened during COVID. In the state of Maine, employees do not pay into U/E, so either Bruce is just uninformed or else is fibbing again. But, when people rely on U/E to provide their living, it increases the tax rate that the company must pay in for U/E, making the company generally less profitable, which isn't good for anyone... I guess except the person getting paid not to work.

It might not be welfare in your eyes Bruce but when you are intentionally living off money you did work for or earn its welfare in my eyes. Its coming out of someone's pocket and you didn't earn so by my definition its welfare. And its the kind of stuff that's dragging this country down. Wrong again drama queen. The company that hires me and myself are the only ones that pay in.Nobody else.I can only draw out what is put in and theres a time frame that I can draw it as well.

Unemployment insurance provides a temporary source of income to individuals who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own. Unemployment insurance is funded solely by unemployment taxes paid by employers; employees do not pay into the unemployment system.. Yotetrapper please show me where I was talking about Maine?I said Mass.So your wrong again. Ok. I assumed since you were a seasonal employee in ME, you drew ME U/E and not MA U/E. But, the same is true for MA. Employees of this business or organization are covered by Unemployment Insurance (UI), a program financed entirely by Massachusetts employers. No deductions are made from your salary to cover the cost of your Unemployment Insurance benefits.

Too funny, lol. A home depot greeter and a fake cowboy, neither of who trap as much as bruce, giving him a hard time about working seasonal and drawing unemployment which he is fully entitled to do,when laid off then going to work in the bush all winter to trap and hunt to feed his family. There are lots around here who work seasonal ,draw their unemployment insurance which they have paid into, then go work their traplines in winter. All is claimed income as Im sure Bruces is also. Here if you work your trapline in winter you are not entitled to the week unemployment insurance payment that your fur sells at the auction.

No deer seen this evening in a new spot. You are never going to make 1,000 at this rate.
I have nothing clever to put here.

Yep, yotetrapper30 I set a very small line just 4 miles from my home last year catching no marten or fisher.I hate them exclusion cages.I have hundreds of pictures of marten and fisher pictures caught in my traps. So you can try and put me down all you want.It must be a awful feeling to be filled with that much hate to keep following someones posts around trying to put that person down every chance that they can.It actually is rather comical.

Putting all my time into deer hunting instead. When are you headed to Texas? I heard Savell offered you to come down to stay and hunt with him for a couple weeks this winter.

Nice! I like watching the guys on YouTube from Maine tracking. Tracking them in the snow is my favorite method by far.We just don't get enough snow anymore to track them like we used to.Its also harder to keep up with the bucks tracking them since coyotes came into the picture as alot of bucks don't stop anymore and leave the country crossing every brook and water they can find.I really miss the 80's and 90's.
