Was in northern Iowa pheasant hunting. Also did some thermal night hunting. Friends son had a bunch of trail cameras pictures of this cat. We tried to get him in but never did. Got home and he sent me a picture. Neighbor got him a mile from where we were trying to call him in. Not protected he said and shoot on site. Hopefully he can get some information off off the collar and pass it on. Northern Iowa close to Spencer [Linked Image]

Yes that's a cougar/mountain lion what ever you want to call it. I know we've got one near where I hunt, it's been seen on game cameras. Last year I talked to a guy whose son is the one that got it on camera. He let the DNR know and they are aware. There are a lot of cattle and cow/calf herds in that area including the land I hunt on so I'm pretty sure I know how that'll go if it's seen by the right people.

Why would you kill it if it wasn't doing any harm? We had one shot here in Eastern Iowa and the person who shot it received a LOT of grief. The cat was asleep on a branch sunny himself and the deer hunter shot it as a trophy for himself. Lots of bad vibe towards the shooter.

There's no place in Iowa for them. I'd take the trophy too.

I know you didn’t take the photo but it’s pretty undignified.
I couldn’t take one…

Would definitely take it as a trophy if I had the opportunity and it was legal. Definitely on my bucket list. Eric

Im surprised they're not protected in Iowa
We have a season here in Nebraska but its a very low quota. I think the season lasted less than a day this year.

We can legally snare/ trap them where I live. Never have come across tracks on my line. I would definitely take one if I could. We have a government trapper that just deals with livestock predation. He kills a lot of cats and wolves from calls from farmers.

That cat was on numerous trail cams. It was only a matter of time before someone got it. When you have no regs or seasons on an animal they are going to be harvested. I’m sure that cat was killing deer, where I was there is a good population of deer. Sure wouldn’t wanted to come across it when we were pheasant hunting, or one of the young kids that was hunting with us.

I posted the pic for the Iowa guys. I’m sure a few of them knew about it and would be interested to know it was harvested. Big cats don’t belong in cornfields. That being said I’m not sure where they belong [Linked Image]

No shortage of lions heck we give them away all of the time they keep ending up in other states you’re welcome. No season outside the Black Hills there they have a quota but open anytime in the rest of the state.

Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!
