Looking forward to finishing up so I can start thinking about trapping. This pic taken an hour ago.

Will blueberries take a frost okay while they are on the bush?

What variety are they?

They can take a light frost...maybe 30F and above and be OK. Get down around 28F and they will turn mushy.

These are Rabbiteye type blueberries and the varietal name for this particular one is "Ocklockonee". It was developed in Georgia and named after a local river according to Warrior. The difference is in Georgia they are done by late June early July, in Oregon they don't start until about mid-August and often go until about now or slightly later.

I have attempted to have an small orchard for blueberries for several years. Problem is our deer population is a real problem without complete protection fencing and netting.

A friend in a neighboring county has found a way to invest and keep his shrubs protected and has been very productive like beaverpeelers. I just don't have that extra time to invest in the proper care of those shrubs as needed. I love blueberries as does my wife.

I wonder how Rabbiteyes would do in your neck of the woods Bob. Mine once took a -13F winter. It burnt them back for that year but the following year I had a bumper crop. I average about 15 lbs per plant once they hit maturity. And that's at close spacings of 10'X 3'.

Nice! I wish my blueberry season was longer here.

I picked all my peppers today and cut my plants back. I sort of want to over Winter my pepper plants, but I'm not sure it's worth the work. I did cover them for the frost tonight.

I have one tree loaded with pears still. I picked the other 2 late pear trees already. I don't really need more, but will probably pick some for Diane to try making jelly with. We have never made pear jelly before. I gave 25 gallons of pears to my mother, youngest brother and sister a week ago from yesterday.

I've been watching for field mushrooms, puffballs and winecap mushrooms, which I put spawn from in around 35 to 40 piles of arborist chips back in June. I haven't seen a single edible mushroom and only 1 non edible. The very dry Summer may have ruined their ability to fruit here this year.

I'll collect some more black walnuts and native seeds, but otherwise I'm probably done for the year harvesting any plants.

I have a few thousand seeds to sow to allow cold stratification over the Winter, apricot, peach, black walnut, English walnut, butternut, heartnut, buckeye and hazelnut.
