Somewhere I seen a devise that lets a guy release an animal from a trap from a distance. The pole looked to be 4 or 5 feet long. It pulled the springs down and opened the jaws releasing the animal. In my case antelope/deer. Tired of and getting too old for the wrestling match involved. I dont have any idea what it's called or I'd google it. And yes the trench and step down set works good but not all the time.
Thanks in advance.

Looks interesting but I figure you're going to have to go ahead and dispatch the critter to get it to hold still long enough to get that thing on the trap.

Yep, that's it. Thank you.
Spendy, but if nothing else it might give a guy a couple brownie points with the Game Warden seeing that your prepared.
Plus maybe if a guy spends that much money you'll never have to use it.

They look very well made, I've looked them over at conventions.

No dispatch needed. They work well. You may have to fiddle around to get it on the trap. Use it for lions here.

Exactly, I've never had to use it after purchasing. If that continues it may be the best purchase I've ever made. lol I bought one after releasing a moose out of an Alaska 9 by myself, that is a whole nuther level of fun above releasing a little critter like a deer or cougar.

Warrior,
I know what you're saying, but they do work well. If you have something on a long chain (like a drag with 10 feet of chain) that won't stay still you can work a rope or chain around the trap chain away from the animal and grasping the two ends slide it down the chain to the base of the trap while staying out of reach of the animal. Pull the rope tight and tie it off to a tree or something and it will immobilize the trap enough you can get the release pole on it (if it is an animal that wants to bite through rope you may have to use chain or cable, but even predators usually leave the rope alone if it isn't attached to them). Yes, this is some screwing around, but it allows you to release stuff by yourself while staying out of their reach.

I saw a tip back in 2010 with the same concept. The individual used two 6' catch poles and put 1 loop around each lever from each pole and then pulled the two catchpoles back for release.

The featured release pole may be quicker but if you needed to go a cheaper route, 2 catch poles could get you by.
