Although I’m going to wait a until thanksgiving to set for raccoon,,,I’m already planning out how I’m gonna set for them..
I plan on utilizing some public land , corps of engineers , and I like using pvc sets..ran off on drowners.
There’s always that risk of theft, but I try to minimize it by making it harder to steal.
I don’t know if I should run my #2 double longs because of the bigger jaw spread,, or the # 11 and go with the smaller jaw spread because they are cheaper should I lose them to theft.

I don’t usually trap close by the access areas , and I use pogos on the bank side of the drowner rig, and the other end is pinned to the bottom using 1/2 inch rebar stakes about 20 inches long..
They will need waders to pull out the rebar because I go at least belly button deep. And we all know the holding power of a pogo.

I'm surprised you have that much trouble with theft, it's rare for stuff to come up missing here, but I do try to stay un noticed.

I like smaller jaw spread for coons. If they don’t head down the drowner right way there is less room under jaws for chewing. DPs would be a good choice on that set up as well. Imo

At least around here, many farmers will readily let you trap their properties if you just ask. There should be less chance of theft on private land. Have you tried getting private permission?

You would think so Keith, I’ve had traps stolen off my own property. Eric

I do have private land to trap,,, but hitting the public land adds up the number of raccoon I can rack up.
And it’s only a few miles from my front door.
