Cougar are about as adaptable as coyotes, and they are prolific breeders. Like coyotes, all they need are feed/deer and a little cover. I think they could do well in nearly all 50 States. Tgey are apparently even expanding into Alaska; Hawaii might be a little tough though.

I know you didn’t take the photo but it’s pretty undignified. I couldn’t take one… That’s my favorite animal in the world That's the mindset that has shutdown hunting them. Emotions over reality.

They arent Corn or Prairie Lion, and there arent any mountains in Iowa. They gotta go!
I heard that one was called in? Thatd be a helluva rush I’ve watched two coming in while working coyotes. One in Arizona and one in Montana. Interesting indeed. Osky

They , along with wolves , belong in the zoo I agee with this. In the southwest part of Wisconsin where I'm at is farm country, neither of them belong here. Of course the brilliant DNR in this state protects them. A calf or cow wouldn't have much of a chance against one. Here the only good cougar or wolf would be a dead one. Kinda hard to believe the ones who don't understand that.

I saw a Mt Lion with my own eyes back in the late 80’s. It was in the river hills of the Gasconade. It was never seen again in that area that I’m aware of. I hear reports occasionally of a siting somewhere in MO. I’m sure there are some passing through. Maybe some of our ex-conservation folks can comment.

And if it were go on the ballot , how do you think that'd go ? The instant someone throws their emotions into wildlife conservation, I don't trust them.

I've seen how thoughts like that change policy. You might not care about my opinion , but I certainly care about yours . It could affect wildlife conservation that doesn't directly effect you.
