On a side note, why do you say you're not a fan of ball powder?

Glad to hear smile but honestlyi usually just plain dont have a ton of luck with them even ones folks say are supposed to be amazing for a given caliber I'll get them and more them half the time
Just terrible.
BLC2
CFE223
Ramshot TAC
H110
Lil Gun
To name a few

Same everything. Else but a stick powder of some sort and groups will tighten up instantly it seems. I've had alot of discussions about the matter .....well really it's more people just tell me ball powder X has worked perfectly for them for the last 20 years and they dont believe me .... But egh idk mabye it's the humidity or something down here ?

Will say though RAMSHOT XTERMINATOR is one of my favorite powders it's a ball but man it's just been a solid performer . Accurate 2520 is looking like it might be too

Okie dokie and today . 15 pieces left . Haven't cleaned the gun past getting most of the powder out but only had 15 pieces of brass left so ..egh.

But I guess I work up with a little more sense this morning and used one of those spent converted case to make a split case . Now idk what the actual name for these are but I just call them a split case . All it is is a way for you to find your jam...or where your bullet hit the rifling. Just take a case cut a slit down to the shoulder with a Dremel, pinch it a lil so it holds a bullet with a lil grip and chamber it with a bullet seated long. When it hit the lands the bullet gets pushed into the case and the tension keeps it there so you can measure
[Linked Image]

So before
[Linked Image]
And after
[Linked Image]
Did it a few times and 1.764 is my jam so gonna seat them at AROUND 1.760 for a .004 jump

And a few little mods I made to make stuff in it nicer ... Cut out the bar on the hand guard that blocked the gas block adjustment screw
[Linked Image]
Stole the break off my .223 Wylde I never shoot because this lil guy has some upwards buck. Recoil isn't heavy or hard just you shoot and be off target
[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]

Moved the scope around a bit and. Got this goofy deal found on with the bippod where one leg is longer then the other but works better then both even
[Linked Image]

Aannnd were at the very tail end of this load
[Linked Image]
First five where to get back in target because I had moved the scope but other then that
[Linked Image]

And the brass
[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]

So ....so far growing pains of getting this ting running decent aside ..... I'll be honest.... I don't get all the hype .... Don't get me wrong , yeah I'm slinging these a good 300 fps faster then my .223 and 5.56 with the same bullet .... But other then the fact I'll be able to keep going heavier and he we bullets MAG FEEDING .... Eghhhhhhhis it worth getting a while new upper or build as like a necessity deal ....I don't feel so , unless you need /wanna be in the bleeding edge of stuff constantly..
Now the whole deal about it doing near .22-250 performance in an AR15 platform.... I think with "classic) 22-250 weight bullets there might be something there ...but again...egh anyhow got the brass resized and in the tumbler right now might try some 60gr vmaxes or something tomorrow

Ok so back at it like 55 rd in and gonna give her a cleaning ..squirted some hoppes down the bore aannnndd got blue after a few minutes...which I don't get usually. Usually it's black
[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]

And a little sneak peek in the inside
[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]

Decided to switch powders and try some RAMSHOT TAC since I had an unopened can and the numbers looked good
[Linked Image]

Same set up as before got the adjustable gas back on since I got it tuned up last time and act found my grendel mag !
Took the scope BACK off my 22-250 .....I should really just buy another one for a floater so had to re sight
50yd looked good . First was low then a nice lil bug hole
[Linked Image]

.... problem is now ... It's back to not ejecting or doing a last round hold open , it's feeding but ...yeah
[Linked Image]

Perfect ejection but I'm kinda sick of fiddling with this thing ...
Anyhow TAC gave some great numbers but the groups where just .....meh... usable ...but meh. At this point I said I just have an emotional attachment to this dang bullet because two of my other guns like them so decided to do something different
[Linked Image]

So went back in ripped the adjustable back off the the non adjustable gas back on and tightened it all up
[Linked Image]

As after as bullet , next heaviest thing I had a lot of was the 60gr VMAX and apparently for .22 cal this lil dude is the best out of all of them apparently they're not AS hyper explosive as the lighter ones so [Linked Image]

Now I was looking for data on the app but...Hornady didn't have any for the 60gr VMAX... For some reason, they have data for most of the 50 somethings the 62 ELDVT and the heavies but not the Vmax ... Thought that was odd
[Linked Image]

But figured I'd use the 62 gr data and just keep an eye on the brass . If anything I would get a lil more velocity with the lighter bullet .... Kids please don't do this follow the book I'm probably going bro blow my face off one day .
[Linked Image]

Something else that made me think was maybe it's not in there because possibly the 60gr is one of those that you can't push super fast in a fast twist .....but then I did som googling and tons of people run it in fast twist .22-250's even having some boutique custom stuff you can buy soit can't be that so who knows
[Linked Image]

Long story short worked pretty good ! Before feeding. Off the rip though I did get a few jams that I'll chalk up to the mag. Nothing crazy at all just drop the mag shake the round out and re load it
[Linked Image]

Groups were much better but velocity....egghh I just barley coming over a well loaded .223 or 5.56.... though these are delicious of a 24" barrel vs my 20" so there that
[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]

So seeing I only had 15 pieces of brass left I said let me try and get more speed so I can feel better , and lever ...again... Had some of the best velocity ranges ...so
[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]
Little.more recoil but not much at all brass ejection went to more 4-430 but was getting a bit better speed wise . Will say though I definitely rushed the last group on the right because Dad called and had to come get me for something so maaannne it could have been better

[img]https://trapperman.com/forum/attach...0-274195-image_cropper_1762553675874.jpg[/img]

So looking at the numbers and taking everything into account...yeaahhh it's a bit of an upgrade and as far as a easy button in a AR15....yeah this is about as close as your gonna get to 22-250 performance without going full on custom wild cat mode. I mean I got like ....$200 in this and that's mainly just the barrel dies, brass and shipping everything else was just parts out the bin and other stuff I had for a stand .223/5.56.... I mean and my 6.5grendel BCG and mag but yeah .... Don't think I could see myself dropping $1500 on a whole new gun ... But if I had a spare upper I don't use and wanted a lil more .... Yeah

Do you intend to kill anything with this gun? And you need to paint the hair that chick on your scope blue just to keep peace in the family!

I'm trying bud I'm trying ...swear as soon as the first decently cold night hits all the critter go run off on private property thaws outta state guys have ... Had like two different packs of yotes loosing it Evey night last month round. The house , went out last few nights and nothing...not a peep... Last night was able to get one to respond to some female invitation but that sucker just would not move . Had him talking back for probably a good 30-45min but was about a mile back on a neighboring property in the pines and just wouldn't move smirk got another on to answer back once and it sound like it was like a half mile in the opposite direction of the other but they definitely don't wanna play ball smirk

Been out since about 8 this morning three stands about 45 a pop rabbit distress followed by grey vocal and zip.... Been blowing a steady 20 with the wind switching all over so idk ... I just post my bench stuff because I know y'all don't like hearing about failed hunt #70 lol
