For those that use market place, what is the angle or plan for people who ask that and then apparently then completely ignore you? Is there some way they are trying hack your account or what? I see a lot of ads that say, "won't reply to "is it available"" must be some reason.....

It seems some people make a hobby of contacting and asking inane questions.

Common examples seem to be:

"Is this still available?" for something posted 10 minutes ago.
"What is the lowest you will take?"

In regard to the first I make no response. For the second the response is "The posted price."

I get that Ed, do you think they are just bored or is there something more unscrupulous in it's intent?

When you're on Marketplace on a smartphone, that message is pre-filled in the "Send seller a message" field and there's a "Send" button there as well. It would be easy for someone to hit that button inadvertently when scrolling through an ad. I attribute many of those to that simple mistake.

I wondered the same thing. Then I saw the question "Is this still available" as a clickable question to ask on my wife's phone. I think people just click it. Not sure if its on all formats. Stupid.

It is very annoying. I always respond because you never know which are legitimate. I’d say about 1 in 6 produce a real sale, so to me it is worth it.

it is a pre canned message in the program

why I very specifically make sure to back that out and send a personalized message like.

I am interested in your tool box , when would you be available to meet so that I can inspect and purchase?

I figure people are lazy and hit the pre canned message most of the time. I want to be different if I want the item.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Same here. I often look at their profile too to see if they seem legit, but it's hard to tell sometimes. I like to respond "yes, would you like to buy it?" but even that seems to go ignored, so I thought maybe they had an angle, maybe they are just stupid. lol

I hit it on accident all the time when looking at something on Facebook on my phone, it automatically sends it!
I have asked is this still available to at least least 100 people in the last year don’t know how it does it, but for some reason when you’re scrolling, it sends it to them

I just did that the other day, hit the send button on the auto-filled "Is this available."

The guy responded right away and said yes and I apologized, told him I sent it accidentally.

That's the first time I've done that.

I accidentally sent a friend request to a tenant once and she accepted it before I could delete it.

Eh...wot?

Beings that is the only thing you can ask first time contacting thats why I ask. What I really want to know is How much or how many miles or does it run. That sort of things.

No it isn't. You just delete that out of there and type what you really want to know instead.

I use my laptop and I guess I didn't know that was a thing. Thanks. Still it wouldn't hurt if once someone replies to it, they could say "sorry it was accidental". lol

Yes bring cash.
This interweb is sooo helpful.

I helped with a property sale through there.
What a perpetual headache that was.

A few times a year I hit that preloaded message while scrolling. If I realize I did it, I send a quick apology. I think Facebook intentionally designs the page to have that happen. Some people, who were interested enough in an item to look at it, probably get guilted into buying it that way.

What's even worse is when they don't show up at a determined time (as in not at all) or send you a lowball offer without even looking at the item.

as others have said More than a couple times ive sent that message by accident without ever realizing i did because its auto reply. As soon as you open the ad facebook already has that typed in for you. if I catch myself doing it on accident i send a 2nd message or if they respond when i dont realize i did i let them know it was a mistake... i never understood that whole thing either until that happened to me a few times
