My Sis is flying to Fla and says they may be driving back if the FAA cancels flights. Is this because of the govt shutdown and is it really necessary? Are air traffic controllers federal employees?

Didn't they make ATC a special category with "No strike/layoffs" Clauses?

"b. Use of sick leave: Sick leave cannot be granted for rest, minor inconvenience or in place of annual leave. However, an employee who becomes ill or injured while on approved annual leave may substitute sick leave (see LWS-8.1, paragraph 11a). Employees must provide sufficient information why sick leave is needed so the manager can determine whether the requested leave can be granted. Failure to provide adequate information will result in denial of the leave. Evidence of frequent unscheduled and/or questionable use of sick leave without medical documentation may result in the employee being placed under the terms of a leave restriction and/or charges of absence without leave (AWOL), and/or failure to follow leave requesting procedures. In accordance with the guidelines outlined in the Human Resource Policy Manual (HRPM), Volume 8: Leave and Work Schedules, any absence that is not approved will be charged as AWOL."

The law that requires ER's to treat any and all patients is the EMTLA signed into law in 1986.
P.S. Hospitals will still have to treat illegals, but hospitals will have to pass the cost on to people who pay their bills instead of taxpayers who required them to provide the service under EMTLA.

It goes far beyond ER visits. My wife is a medical Provider. If it wasnt for Medicaid ER visits after 5:00 PM would be very rare.

Well Gary Medicaid is a State run Federally funded program. Each State can provide more services if they want, but may have to use State funds.

"Reagan fires 11,000 striking air traffic controllers, Aug. 5, 1981 Aug 5, 2017 - On this day in 1981, President Ronald Reagan fired more than 11,000 air traffic controllers who had ignored his order to return to work. The sweeping mass firing of federal employees slowed commercial air travel, but it did not cripple the system as the strikers had forecast."
Bring in the Air Force controllers.

Look at all the jet fuel that will be saved ... Should lower the price of gasoline and diesel.. Remember the fuel prices days after 911 when planes couldn't fly???

Where is anyone seeing anything about airports shutting down? All I am seeing is a gradual reduction in the number of flights to eventually reach 10% fewer flights.....
Proudly banned from the NTA.

Only thing I can say about that is it sure does suck when your child support is set up on a payroll deduction ( makes for easy record keeping) , but now you're working without pay until a CR or budget is passed. I could usually get my debt holders to deal with me, but not so much an ex-spouse. Between gas getting to work , groceries , and utilities ...it certainly sucked.
