Again, this trip happened a while ago. Just catching up on sharing this adventure.
Day Dos of the North Dakota Expedition…
We left our home base around 7:20 AM to the PLOTS land we scouted the night before. We walked some draws and grass away from ag, and well… we struggled… We did manage to bag two sharpies which was a big bonus for us. No pheasants to show for the day.
Some scouting, walking, and jump-shooting produced nine ducks for us (1 mallard hen, 1 wigeon, 1 ringneck, 1 shoveler, and 5 gadwall). Dad also bagged two Hungarian partridge which tickled him pink! He is a SUCKER for those little birds.
We did some scouting for our pheasant expedition Sunday morning and then headed to a spot to chase some Chinese birdies. After walking and seeing the remnants of some harvested roosters, we knew this property had been hit hard and fairly recently. It produced no action for us unfortunately.
We scrambled for a last half hour hunt and walked some PLOTS. After shooting very well the morning before on pheasants, I apparently decided I’d give the roosters warning shots instead of knocking them in their tracks today. On this little, quick walk, Dad found himself a mourning dove and eventually with three minutes left and at the end of a shelterbelt, I bagged a rooster pheasant.
Dad and I together managed the upland slam trio (hun, sharpie, & rooster). Not the day we had in mind, but we both really appreciate a fun mixed bag!
Also saw some very neat things as always in ND. One that stands out is the out of commission railroad track with abandoned carts on the track. It was separated in the middle thankfully, so we could get through on the road. We had never seen anything like that before!
