So I have trapped several fox a year for the last few years. This year I have them visiting my sets based on trail cameras but for some reason they aren’t committing to the dirt holes. Same baits and sets I’ve caught them on in years past. Not sure if I should switch up baits, put in a quiet flat set nearby, just wait them out? I’m extra impatient cause there are definitely gray fox visiting and I’ve never caught one before. Thoughts from the group?

Patients. They will commit when they want to. But also, put in a well blended flat set using just urine or urine and a gland lure. Make em pee if they are not interested in food.

Flat set. Pickup a white rock a bone or an odd looking piece of wood and use as a backing. They're as curious as us .if the wind is in the wrong direction for your set the eye appeal might bring them close enough to get a whiff. Or if it's grey fox they'll walk around and attack over your backing. It's a grey fox thing?

I just gathered that after watching Bob Jameson’s eastern fox trapping dvd today for the um-teenth time. They may be too nervous to commit to a food set , and when they’re nervous they wanna mark. Every time I watch it I learn something new

There still might be an abundance for natural food. They might not be real hungry maybe more curious.

weatherwise, has it been mild there? (it's been that way here).

mild weather doesn't help.

Season has been super warm and fur hasn’t been moving much at all. Big cold front coming in this weekend through Tuesday hopefully gets things moving a bit better. I have one set that has been visited by a gray more than any of the others with cameras. I’ll put a pee post maybe 10-20 feet down the trail and see if I can pick him up there. On a positive note none of them have dug a trap or gotten a bad experience at a set. I kinda think they know where it is and will come back around when they get in the mood for a snack? Thanks everyone!! Hopefully a picture of my first gray will be coming this season!

I would take Mr Kellys advise and use clean urine and gland and try to keep your scent post as natural as possible
try to locate something they are already marking and just blend a trap into it as far as the greys always run double sets more then likely there running in pairs
i would use a good size hole and place a good amount of razberry jam down the hole this time of year ants wont be a problem and ream the entire hole all the way to the top leavin a bit on the surface for them to get at once they taste it they will dig to china to get the rest
and just a touch of urine or fresh rabbit down a deep hole with a touch of urine it seems when canines are hesitant to commit stick with as natural as possible and offer them what they eat everyday
good luck this season and take care
