Did my yearly moose hunt to Newfoundland this past week. My 17th trip, hands down the worst weather I’ve seen there. One day, 2” rain. Next day, blizzard, 10” of snow. 30-40 mph winds on three days. Weather really deteriorated after Hurricane Mellisa blew past last weekend. We had two decent days to hunt, Monday and Thursday. Saw nine moose between those two days. I’ve never killed a cow before, killed a bull on the other 16 trips. But with high winds forecasted on Friday, I shot a good sized cow early on Thursday morning.

A buddy of mine shot a small bull up there a few weeks ago. He gave me some ground moose. Makes the best burgers I have ever had.

Good job.

Ain't any shame in killing a cow.

Lots of good eating there

It was about as big as cows get. I’d guess 750-800 live. When I took it to the shop to get cut, it had bigger hanging quarters than some of the smaller bulls.

Can’t complain 17 for 17, even if one is a cow!

Do you get to bring all the meat home with you?

Flew home two boxes. 50 pound each. That gets you all the steaks and better cuts. Outfitter’s family keeps the rest.
