I'm doing something that I have never did before actually setting traps for a bobcat. I have caught and released many over the years in coyote sets, but now starting this year we can catch and keep one per trapper until the limit of 250 cats are checked in. It's going to be good to be back out setting steel once again even if it is for only one cat. The bobcat season is only for the southern half of the state. I haven't did much trapping since they put a stop to the live market for coyotes. I plan on getting my one cat tanned and putting it in my man cave if I'm successful.

I have not looked into what it takes to get a tag. Figured the 250 would be filled before I set any in late winter. I quit seting one spot on the farm becuse I got tired of leting bobcats go.

I dont need a traping license to trap my farm wonder if I need anything extra to take a bobcat on it.

Makes absolutely no since with no license required for hunting or trapping anything else on my farm. So im sure you are probably 100 % correct. Sounds like the government

I'm trapping my own farm as well. Put a couple cat specific sets today, weird making them so obvious for a cat instead of sneaky sets for coyotes. I usually catch about 10 cats per year but usually later in the winter.

Proudly banned from the NTA.

Bother me tomorrow. Today I'll buy no sorrows.

PF, I’m guessing you’ll need a special license because it’s a CITES animal. Michigan is limited on bobcats as well, and we need to check our cats (I get one in the Lower Peninsula) within like a week of the close of season. At the check the DNR biologist will place a CITES-specific tag on the animal. Of course, your regs should fill you in.

You Indiana guys are lucky as far as your process goes… here in good ol Illinois,, we have to go by a lottery system to draw a tag. And it’s extremely difficult to get one… we suspect that the antis put their name in the hat to “ save the bobcats “ and the tag never gets filled.

No proof of a hunting or trapping license is required to enter.
Illinois is more interested in the money part.. because by the time you are done spending money thru all the fees,, it’s non refundable of 10 bucks.
It’s hard to tell how many people enter the lottery.. only a limited amount of tags are issued .

No tag, then any cat has to be released, Or turned over to Mr green jeans if it gets whacked by a bodygrip
