I always look and have never seen them. It always irritates me when relatively local people I know talk about how wonderful the Northern Lights are and post awesome pictures, when we've watched for them, with no luck. Everytime I have asked they couldn't actually see them, without the cameras, except for a little light on the horizon. I would really like to see an awesome display of the Northern Lights before I die. Keith

What do they mean by with a camera? Like, a camera with a zoom lens or??
Gotta find a way, a better way, I'd better wait

Your iPhone on normal exposure will capture northern lights that are not visible to the naked eye. But not well in Southern states, where you need a longer exposure to get a stronger image. Keith

That's a good picture. I would like to eat puffin.
Keith I would guess if you put enough tarter sauce on them they taste like fish.

Keith I would guess if you put enough tarter sauce on them they taste like fish. I've seen a few Icelandic cooking shows where people cook and eat puffins. They looked good and people seemed to enjoy them. I've seen some Irish shows where old people talk fondly about catching and eating puffins too. Puffins were a major food source in much of North West Europe. Keith

My wife and I drove up north a couple miles away from the yard light. Here are some pictures she took both at the house and up north. Looking SW ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/11/full-964-274704-lsw.jpg) Looking west ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/11/full-964-274705-lw.jpg) Looking NW ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/11/full-964-274706-lnw.jpg) Looking north ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/11/full-964-274707-ln.jpg) They were to the east too. You could turn in a circle and see them all the way. A never ending show. Get out and take a look.

The view from northern nevada thru the phone camera. Did you use manual settings on your phone? If so, care to share what you used?

Pretty vivid displays especially for that far south.
Most of you may not be where it is completely quiet but if you are.........it is sometimes possible to hear a crackling noise created by the aurora. It is faint but definite Now, that'd be very cool !

So many great shots, from southern states , too. Here, the lights are fairly common, as bright as anywhere at times, or slight. Here's a share from two nights ago . I have been in a favorite town of mine for some days, invited to attend by a small group of veterans , enjoying large bore rifle shooting on a private estate, with an amazing view of the mountains. One of them, a retired Special Forces vet, has a Weatherby MV , as I do, but he said he's never seen such gorgeous wood grain as mine. Just like the Northern Lights in appearance. He jokingly asked if I would trade mine for his. We enjoyed the evenings in story sharing, some of their experiences in their service. Every story was appreciated to every word. They loved hearing me share some of my favorite book reading, poems, also some of Jack's stories. And singing a little. It was discussed that I start a volunteer program, with a veterans' organization there, to read aloud to vets once a week from an interesting book. To a man, they encouraged such a program, that they, and any veterans can attend, find soothing and refreshing from their daily cares. I thought it was a great idea. Veterans Day was a wonderful time for me, amidst wonderful company. The lights were icing on the cake. Investing in my iPhone for the camera quality was among the best choices I've made, taking the place of the scanner for large art formats as well. Thank you , JR, for encouraging me to get one of these. Checking in to share with those here who have been asking of my absence, being on walkabout for a while. One of a few walkabouts, actually. Thank you. Thank you all for sharing your photos. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/11/full-20139-274955-image0.jpeg) ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/11/full-20139-274956-image1.jpeg)
