Got a beautiful skunk with a lot of white on its tail. It's been a long time since I put one up. I noticed when fleshing the tail I needed to use the sharp side of my necker which worked well but can feel the roots of the hairs in the leather of the tail so stopped half way. Is that normal or did I take too much off ?

It should be okay where you fleshed. Base of Skunk tails is pretty thick leather and kind of lumpy. Once you get a little past a third of the way down it smooths out and can usually be pushed.
Sometimes I use the sharp side of my two handled flesher, but lately I've gone to using my rounded 4 inch beaver knife to flesh the tails

I ended up removing it from the board and taking more off the last 3rd of the tail. As it hung on the board for 24hrs it seemed apparent to me that it needed to be removed and I also felt better about about the top part that I had fleshed.

I did another the following day and it didn't have nearly the fat and grizzle the first one did.
