Hey i was just wondering the most people do if you are running a line and have to go away for a weekend and won't be able to check traps but planning on setting again as soon as you get back do you pull traps or just snap them off?

It's not legal to just snap off and not check.

That sucks. A lot of extra work to pull them and reset.

A contract I was working on for WS required springing traps on Friday and resetting on Monday. Royal PITA

Check with you or GW working your area. I met ours and asked would it be acceptable to snap and put a zip tie on it vs pulling it. He didn’t see a problem with that and gave me his business card to call him should there be an issue.

I’ve never been a fan of purposefully leaving a dead trap lay at a set.

Bad enough when deer do it.

While it may not be the end of the world as far as educating critters, it certainly doesn’t work to your favor for it to be there than gone to them.

Talked to local GW about similar situation and like Hobbie Trapper was told as long as trap was inoperable was OK to leave traps where they were, so on my cages I just zip tie the doors open and leave them then just need to rebait when putting back in operation, can't see where it would be a problem leaving any trap in place if inoperable, but best to check with your local game enforcement

definitely check your warden

also private vs public is potentially a concern

rules get written for public , and how they might be used

like no pre staking , this is very much a public land rule written in the regs , no one cares if you pre stake your own land or leave them there year to year.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.
