Some of the best food in the country in that area. Not sure what exactly you are looking for. I would recommend driving South a little on US 90 to New Iberia. Some more awesome food. And the Tabasco place is in Avery Island if you like hot sauce or are curious. Not sure if you have ever seen sugar cane but they grow it in the fields along the highway.
What else are you interested in knowing?

Thanks Swampghost, niece is getting married there. Going to have a day and a half of free time and was looking for stuff to do or explore. Grooms family has invited us to their home Thursday night for supper. Excited to try some local dishes.

Best behavior, I've learned that the cajuns can be the best folks you ever meet but they're kind of sensitive about their culture and way of life. Some take offence easily so whatever you do don't be rude.

I once used the term coonass in a joking way and near bout got my tail whipped for it.

There is an acadian village in Lafayette that showcases the louisiana heritage and way of life. Pretty interesting. Not sure the exact name but I bet Google will help.

Spent some time there in 83-85...I'd say things have changed since then.

The guy that had the top bunk of our beds in basic (Ft Jackson SC) was from Monroe Louisiana. We have lost touch through the years but he was of the finest people I have ever met. My buddy said there is a distinct difference between a coonass and a Cajun. If you don’t know don’t use those words. I was supposed to go see him while on leave from Ft Sam Houston but someone broke into my locker and stole the money I had saved back for the trip. Never made it. This will be my first trip to the state.
