Wow... the ups and downs of trapping.

I figured I better go check my trap line quick before my morning meetings.

As I come up over the hill to where I can see my first coyote set. I see something in the trap and I start hoot'n and holler'n, but seconds later I am like OH CRAP, that's a BOBCAT.






Bobcat season isn't until Dec 10-29 where I am at. So I run back to house, get a half sheet of plywood, cut a notch in the bottom and grab the wife and go back.

While we are admiring the bobcat and getting pictures, I look to my left (West) towards my other set about 75yds away, and HOLY COW, I see a coyote!






We decide to go get pics of the coyote and dispatch before taking care of the bobcat to avoid any chance of losing him.

It was a male coyote. Don't know on the bobcat.

The release went well. I got its foot in the notch, and my wife held the board up. It did make one attack at the side of the board and bit it while I was bending down to reach the trap. Scared me half to death for a second.

Incidentally, the critter and lost trap from my prior post was about 20 yds up that mowed trail from the oak with all the leaves on it.

It's good to have days like that once in a while. For releasing a bobcat try a big enough plastic tote. Just cut one of the top corners out. Makes it easier to release by yourself if you can't find help right away.
