I've read the L&C Journal and don't remember anything about them eating coyote. I think I would remember that but maybe my recollection is faulty. Dogs, on the other hand, were often bought from the Indians and eaten and were a favorite. I guess Lewis's dog Seaman was glad it wasn't him. It sounds like fiction to me because they didn't have onions or turnips to cook with whatever meat they could obtain.
