From pheasant opener...
These types of days don’t come around too often, so you definitely appreciate them when they do!
This morning was pheasant opener here in Nebraska. The public piece we started on was packed to the brim. Way more vehicles than I could’ve ever expected for today. However, we found ample amounts of birds amidst the chaos and walked away with 10 of our twelve birds. We then hit some private to wrap up our first ever four-man limit. I would have never guessed we could’ve managed this, but it came to fruition today. My tailgate cleaning board that was a wedding gift from our ND friends came in CLUTCH for processing these birds also!
Katie and I spent some time on the road getting back to our current stomping grounds, and I headed over to our local Ducks Unlimited banquet. I got to tag along with two very good hunting buddies, the one’s wife, and even managed to drag our one buddy out that doesn’t hunt. We were grateful he spent the evening hanging out and grabbing some beverages with us!
Our group made out of there like bandits to boot! Two buddies each won their silent auction bids. Toby won some stellar door prizes. And I was lucky enough to win a semi-auto .410 Tristar. I even won a bid on a piece of art with a black lab retrieving a drake wigeon. That had my name written all over it since Bryn retrieved a stud wigeon in North Dakota this year after I bagged my swan.
I also got to hang out with my father, uncle, and brother-in-law on pheasant opener eve drinking our favorite Minnesota brews, Grain Belt, and watching some Friday night football. Plus, the Huskers got the win today!
It’ll be a weekend that sticks with me for a lifetime! Very grateful.
