Ten minutes after the opening the box from where the ups man dropped it off.. I had a coon.. lol
I had already zeroed my 17 at 30 yards.. set the caller around some den trees behind my house, flipped it on , bd within 2 minutes I had this jewel coming at me like it's tail was on fire.. first shot was 14'.. clean miss.. it never even checked up, next shot was at 10'.. bingo.. rolled it.. pretty fun I have to say.. i checked the zero again on my rifle for close quarters.. a 30 yard zero, is actually about 4" low at 10 feet.. this was a eye opener for me.. so I changed zero to 25'.. and then shot it at 50'.. 4 inches high… oh well.. it was fun!

Good job.
Dennis Kirk's coon puppies was a good one.

That is definitely something I have been wanting to try. I know my 7 year old son would enjoy it.

That was #1 in our cassette collection. Best night was 39 'coon. .22 mag, scope, and CCI hollowpoints.

Often thought about trying that. It sounds like a blast!

There was this bar that was so rough they checked you for a gun and if you didn't have one, they gave you one.

I zero my coon calling rifle at 17 yards.
I have access to a 51 foot indoor range and sighted in there.

And the Zero works well for me. I use a worked over 10-22 most of the time and sometimes a 17hmr bolt action. 20gr Not Balistic tip bullets.

your distance from barrel to center of scope is all the lower a round should hit close

lower your scope is mounted the less that is

for me it is about 2 inches on most things I have the 2-7x32 scopes on so I keep the 25/50 yard zero and on close stuff set the cross hair on the top of the head it will be between the top of the head and the middle of the head depending on exact distance.

Definity worth playing with the numbers https://www.hornady.com/4dof

the calculator will give you the low or high based on your zero , the ammo , the height over bore of your optic you can change your output to every 3 yards and you can adjust your zero distance by yard

play the numbers out in the calculator find where you can make your max range shot and the close 10-30 foot shot 3-10 yards

I run a 2 inch height over bore on my 10/22 zero for 25 yards

here is a chart from the calculator
graph paper with a 1/4 inch grid makes a good target color 4 squares black with a pen or marker now you have a half by half inch aiming point , sight in , then work forward and back from minimum distance to maximum distance you want to know for , confirming the data from the chart you decide on
you can even make a quick reference with a stripe of tape on the stock Make a red line and zero distance then blue, at common distances like 3, yards 7 yards , 10 yards , 15 yards , 25 yards(zero) , 65, 75 and 100.
are you going to look at it while a coon is rushing you , no but there is time while you sit often enough that you look at it and it is a regular reminder of distance and drop a "dope chart" on center fire rifles we normally start at 100 or 200 and go out to 3-400 yards maybe further , but rimfire close is very possible and useful.

I call it a 25/50 because 2 tenths of an inch is not a big deal to me at 50 yards it is a bullet width
this setup works because a close 10 yards 30 feet squirrel lay the cross hairs on the top of head and you are in the head
a farther squirrel you are a bullet width up or down form 21-51 yards probably one of the most common distances for small game

I went today on my lunch break, parked under a bridge and set the caller in some weeds.. had a old $45 Winchester 22 with iron sights… my truck gun.. about a minute into the call, one jumps into the creek from the opposite side.. the creek is wide enough that I had time to open the video recording on my phone and stick it back in my pocket, he swam across.. stood up and I popped him!!

That's super cool! What type of call is it? I have a Johnny Stewart Executioner and it has 1 raccoon call, it's a coon and a bird fighting, but I've never tried it. Just curious what call you were playing!
