Every time for me .How did she fix them ?

I usually just boil them, but I can eat them raw, so I may not notice an off taste.

I like em raw with a little salt on them. Never knew people cooked them until I was an adult. Same for kohlrabi and cabbage cores. lol

The greens are the nutritious part.

Smash is the one to talk to. She says they are great if prepared right. I have never had a good turnip.

Greens or roots?

Greens add a bit of bacon or smoked pork, some vinegar white, cider, or malt. Onion goes good as well as does a pod of hot pepper.
Roots add butter.

I had 10 acres of them and the ewes ate them down below ground level . Seem bitter to me (tops are probably OK I can not remember them )

I roast mine. I find that the smaller ones are better than the great big ones. Peel them and cut into bite sized pieces. Toss in some olive oil or whatever oil you have handy. I tend to use a lot of avocado oil that’s just what I have … Just a little salt and pepper and whatever herb you may like. Thyme or rosemary is very good. I make them in the air fryer a lot. Probably 15 minutes or so at 375. They taste like little fried cabbages when I’m done.
Also love them with a pot roast or beef stew as they lend a nice peppery flavor to the entire dish

I roast radishes same way except you don’t have to peel them. That’s a fun little side dish

Down here in the South we dont attempt to eat any greens until a couple frosts have hit em.

I boil them and like the roots added to pot roast or corned beef.

To me they pair well with parsnips or carrots in a pot roast. Kind of a sweet counterpoint to the sharper turnip.

I like turnips better raw then cooked. They are better younger than old. Some varieties are sweeter than others. The ones I grew last year weren't as good.

I prefer rutabegas to turnip. The missus prefers turnip and can't stand rutbegas.

My taste for greens is collards, mustard, turnip in order.

I like all root vegetables put in with a pot roast.
Then seasoned while cooking with a bag of dry onion soup mix over the top

People here plant them for the deer, for food plots. They won’t touch em until they freeze then they’ll eat every last one. Dig em out of the snow they will. Something about the starch turns to sugar when they get cold. Potatoes do the same thing if you store them to cold.

Rutabagas are ok mashed like potatoes, or mixed with them... turnips, parsnips, I call dirt vegetables, cause that's what they taste like, lol

My Beagle Club would have a fun run at this one guy's running grounds, and he'd have a turnip patch by the gate, so's you could pull up a few to gnaw on while the hounds did their thing.
