You might have a Chupacabra on your hands. Any goats around there? I hear goats bring them in. Most generally they live on goats and house pets.

It ain't a trespasser.
If you get a trail camera, put it near the clod that got moved. Your critter will likely come back to that. If it liked what it smelled like, it likely peed on it and will come back to see if anything came by to top it.

I followed advice suggested and didn’t call the farmer,, we are going to set up a camera in a clump of tall grass.. just hoping that the waving grass doesn’t constantly get in the eye and constantly trigger the camera.
I’ll remake the set tomorrow and I’ll bed some traps on the backside.

I don’t have any solid evidence of a 2 legged critter.. I just don’t know how a critter would have carried that big of a piece of sod that far . I’ve had them carry off things before… but never something like this.
And the way the other set looked… just looked like someone had kicked all the dirt back in it.

Our LO wants to know if we see anything out of the ordinary on his property. Might just ask if he has ever had issues with trespassers.
None that I know want random folks on their property.

Good luck and I hope it was a coyote or something similar, people can be a pain to deal with.

Especially if you had some lure or bait on your hands transfer smell on the sod. I could see my dogs picking it uo if it smells and packing it a short distance.

I wouldn't bother the land owner unless I had solid proof of trespassing.

In an area I was having problems, I went to a 2" trench. One morning I found a hunter standing on the set his foot spanning the trench. He asked me what I was doing there as I did not have a rifle. I said trapping. His reply was he did not see any traps. He would have removed them if he did. My reply I know you did not see it because he was standing on it. He called me an untruthful person. I asked him to step aside and tripped the trap throwing dirt all over him. Pulled my trap and wished him a good day hunting. His attitude changed. We were on State Game Lands both legal being there. He did not like coyote and did know they were there. There was a partially eaten kill just down over the hill from us.
