What is their point? Do they have any say in the direction of the country? Seems to me they are about as relevant as Mickey and Minnie.

At this point more symbology than actual power, though technically the crown does still retain power such as the ability to dissolve parliment. Though that power hasn't been exercised since Charles the First lost his head.

However, functionally the monarchy itself has served as the putative ideal of parliamentary governance "in the name of the Monarch" rather than our more crude because my guy is in the whitehouse.

As for actual say, well the private conversations between the monarch and their prime minister are completely off the record though history reports that in many instances it's been mutually helpful to the other. Publicly the monarch is above the play of politics and is self imposed to not insert themselves into the parliamentary process. It's part of the centuries old unwritten constitution. You know the one where the monarch once held absolute sway but the nobles brought him to heal at Runnymead for the Magna Carta and started the House of Lords then leter the Commons and eventually deposed the Monarch just to bring in a new one.

The brits are a bloody people underneath that stiff upper lip stuff.

I think if the British people got rid of the royals and just took public control of the property, keeping it on display, the tourism dollars would be the same.

I don't think your right about this.

The royals are also excellent ambassadors of the UK, I tend to think a dinner at the palace or a stay at baldamor has likely influenced many political discussions involving allies.

They could just use reenactors to portray the British royalty. They could dress them up and have all the same pomp and ceremony. It would be much cheaper to pay them.

When our presidents go there, they usually have a public dinner with the royals, where absolutely no business is discussed and then go meet with the prime minister and some of the heads of parliament, to get things done.

The current royalty are terrible people. Both Charles and his brother Andrew hung out with Epstein. Andrew just had most of his privileges and titles removed for sexually abusing underage girls. Elizabeth knew this for many years and allowed it. Charles gave Andrew up, to hopefully appease the populace and to make it appear he wasn't doing it too. The current evidence does make Charles to look guilty too.

They love their tradition and pomp and circumstance.

At best they serve currently as a distraction for the collapse of the their country.

This is one of my pet peeves. I’ve never understood the obsession with the British royal family. The media obsession, people in the US that give a rip. They are just ordinary people that had ancestors that were better at dominating your ancestors.

State dinners arent exaclty private meetings. They're to be seen, not hidden.

President Trump banned Epstein from his presence when he found out about him. President Trump warned other people Epstein was a pervert. President Trump refused to do business with Epstein. If there was any evidence of President Trump doing anything with underage girls with Epstein it would of been released before the last election.

The presidential/royal dinners are televised and have many members of the press in attendance. What happens and what's discussed are available for the entire world to see, if they can stand the boredom.

Agreed, my interest is purely historical and attempting to understand the mother country and why they went the way they did while we rejected the concept of monarchy yet retained much of the parlimentary system with an upper and lower house.
