I've seen many different news stories about this event and the numbers vary from story to story as to how many were injured and by what either the bear or pepper spray .
The bottom line for me is those injured have a full and speedy recovery

Here in Montana the numbers of grizzly bears is way over the target data set forth for the capacity of the habitat which in turn forces them to move into places where conflicts can occur , there isn't a balance of nature yet , and grizzly bears are being killed by the federal or Montana fish wildlife and parks dept costing the people of Montana and I for one would rather see a sports person get the chance to harvest the grizzly after they had purchased a tag and were drawn for the opportunity harvest the problem grizzly .

Well if you think shooting them with a load of bird shot is a good idea would have to say your part of the problem and if people are doing that they should be reported. Have skinned a few different animals that were put down for considered a problem and were coming in to town looking for food. Yes the had shogun pellets in them, some times the humans are the cause of the problem.

Was guiding for bear several years ago. A rather large one decided he could waitfor me when he heard the boat. Never went much beyond 50 yards while I was there. Definitely had my attention. Hunter flew in, told him I would be close by. 20 minutes later bear down. When skinned found a full load of #6 shot in him and two lead 45's. Definitely a camp bear. Did not learn a lesson. If you are going in to bear country, take a bear gun. I agree with T13.

Not sure what else you’re supposed to do with a camp griz. If it’s illegal to kill them unless your in immediate danger at least bird shot would move them out of your camp.

I guess I assumed the shotgun would be loaded with slugs. We don’t have any bears here, would an ounce of lead be enough to reliably stop them?
