Costco Pecan for $15.99 is worth it. Expected it to be overly sweet but it was not. Grab a few $5.99 pumpkin pies while your in the Bakery there.

My favorite pie. Had to go without for about 14 years when one of the girls was found to be allergic to tree nuts and couldn’t have them in the house.

Pecan is my favorite pie, but it might be changing. Diane made 2 black walnut pies within the last week and is making another tonight for tomorrow, along with black walnut brownies. She used the recipes for regular sweet pecan pie and an old, custard based, Texas pecan pie. Both were excellent.

I have around 130 Northern Pecan trees in stock. I am going to graft superior named varieties of pecans, that are being grown in Ohio, plus some named varieties of Hican, on many of them in the Spring.

I like pecan pie when its made with brown sugar and not karo syrup. A dash of vanilla added.

Used to be my favorite. I haven't had it since my mom passed away. I might try to get my bride to make one for Christmas. Keith, never heard of making pie with black walnuts, but I love them in everything else, I'm going to have to try that.

I can see just who doesn't have pecans. Those are wild type, pre domestic tiny. Pecans are graded by nuts per pound. The fancy halves types, Stuart/Desirable/etc, will grade 40-50 per lb. These would be more like 125+ per lb. I prefer taste over size and many seedling types while smaller have better flavor and nut fill. The best of these in my opinion and many in the industry is the Elliot which runs 60-70 a lb.

If you can find it ribbon cane syrup is the best to make pies with. If not both Alaga (alabama/georgia) syrup, a cane blend, or Steens cane, not ribbon, syrup are available on amazon.

Many use Golden Eagle syrup, also amazon, which is a corn/cane/honey blend.

Any of those will give more depth of flavor and not just sweet. If I must use karo it'll be dark karo.

You'll really like it Sam. Diane's been putting black walnuts in cherry pies, brownies, fudge, chocolate chip cookies, oatmeal cookies and in her morning oatmeal.

Shellbark and shagbark hickory nuts would make great pies too, if you could get enough.

We have a very few walnuts up here. I lived in Iowa when I was little, and gathering walnuts and hickory nuts was a big deal every year. I sure miss it. Mom used walnuts in most of her baking projects.

I prefer blackberry pie but I’ll eat whatever anyone would bake.
Smash don’t like to bake. I’d sooner cook a flamingo than mess with flour and sugar

I still make my pie crusts like granny tought me too. I'm afraid to use store bought. And blackberry cobbler is my favorite, it was my mission every summer to stock her freezer with blackberries. I never did learn her secret on the perfect blackberry cobbler.

I love pecan pie. My wife just took a couple pumpkin pies out of the oven. It smelled so good she had to test one to make sure it was ok. And I couldn't just let her eat pie alone - it just wouldn't be right wink
