Kill a good buck and someone else was able to get it?

Today my wife showed me a picture of a 92 year old man that killed a nice heavy buck. Probably only 18" but very heavy and nice time length. An old one on the down side. It was shot on the farm the boys were x bow and youth hunting on. I feel bad thinking it but thought man I'm so happy that old fellow was able to get out and get a good buck. I'm glad it didn't walk past my boys during early season. Almost feels like I'm letting my boys down just thinking that. BUT I can't explain how happy it made me seeing that old timer out there getting with it. Guess I'm getting soft in my old age(45) or more aware of physical limitations and such( MS)

I hope I'm still moving unassisted in my 60s at this point( or in the morning depending on the day) let alone killing deer at 92.

Who else gets more satisfaction with other's success. I have always with my kids but they are my kids and I think that's expected. The last year or two its been expanding just about everyone but most with kids, older & disabled individuals.

I guess I am getting soft.

Your kids will have lots of opportunities, that guy most likely won’t have many more. It’s great to let someone else be the hero and be glad for him. Maybe if you know him help him cut it and wrap it, bring the kids and make his day.

I'm always excited when older folks get game, big or small, don't matter, its life they live that makes me happy, as I get older it brings me great satisfaction seeing it. I always say to my self that will be me one day, maybe, maybe not as old as I am getting, but I still try !

I've hunted most of my life and still not got one of them heavy bangers in the deer species, but not sad I didn't either, just keep going
but when I see kids starting out get a banger, I'm over the mountain about it, as I believe there is nothing better than success in your first few hunts to carry on what some still are trying to take away from us who do enjoy it !!

I was hunting with my brother in law many years back when he shot a huge 16 point buck. At the time, I hadn't ever seen anything that big, let alone kill one.
Many years later I was hunting with him again and I killed a monster. I certainly was excited about it, but it still paled in comparison to that day he killed his. I wasn't expecting that would have happened that way.
