Hello. Heading to CO after Christmas to ski and need snow tires. We have a Mazda CX 50 SUV. Current/original tire size is 225/65/17. Have found a set(4) of used Mazda wheels(same lug pattern) with snow tires size 255/40/19 for $650 OBO used one winter came off a Mazda car. Snow tire set would be 1.5" shorter and 1.1" wider. Other than the speedometer being off I think they would be fine? Thank you for your time.

Need to make sure of clearance when turning.

Tacoma World website has a great tire calculator...just google it. Type in sizes of both and it will give size comparisons and also tell you how much your spedometer will be out of sync with different sized tires.

I'm just an internet researcher but a change in tire size changes more than just speedo. It effectively alters the final gear ratio and can effect performance and engine rpms which can affect transmission shift patterns, particularly the modern computer automatics. Just how your's will I dont know.

Being shorter will help with the extra width , but I'd crank the wheel max both directions and see if your existing tires could clear if they had an additional 1/2 inch of width on either side of the tire

A heavier tire will also affect your gas mileage.

This^^

Mazdas don’t have the best reputation for transmission to start with. Changing tire size as well as mountain driving could be a bad combo for your trans imo.

Car rims and tires to a truck.
Sidewall weight ratings.
Will they even fit with the larger brakes.
Tire pressure sensors.
Center hole size.
Rim offset.
Saving money now.

For $650 try to talk them down to $500 if they bite great if not its still a deal.

Bolt them on and see what they do and how you like them. At that price you can prob take them to the tire shop and separate the wheels and tires, sell them separately and make money.

When you are testing them know your RPM at 65mph with the first set and see what your RPM is at 65mph with the other set. Im guessing its close enough to not matter...

I mean there is an RPM diff from 55 to 65 to 75 too... without changing the tires... and Joe Bob and Tom all drive at diff avg speeds. I guess Joe would have problems with some of this thinking.

I could be wrong but thats what I'd do. Think of how many jacked up trucks you see with with way oversized tires. Think why Toyota even offers a calculator...

Sounds close enough to me but check it out and see what you think.

I put oversized tires on most of my vehicles never had a problem look for a size chart that tells you what rims will swap. Center wheel hole would be the biggest hurdle like mentioned and offset the rest is details.

Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!

I'm with Ohio Boy. And AntiGov. I just went through the same thing with my wife's new Buick Encore. Schwab had a set of studded tires nearly new for 1/2 price of new. They were 1/2" taller and 3/4" wider than factory. They just barely missed the strut, but that was enough and they work great.

Just doing what I want now.

tire size comparator calculators on the internet can answer your speed questions and some others https://tiresize.com/comparison/

as an example I deviated from the factory size on my and my sons F150s , we have the exact same Hight and circumference but went almost 3/4 of an inch narrower it saved a couple hundred dollars in tires and let us go to some nicer tires.

we don't go mudding , and narrower tires cut snow better all the speed and weight ratings worked out

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

also in my 2004 and my 1998 GM/Chevy 1500s I have these
https://www.amazon.com/TIMPROVE-T600-Universal-Speedometer-Overspeed/dp/B07FNHGRZ9/ref=sr_1_1?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.aBM02phL_D3MZQU6wSBe8w.BKokw_KV1Va1hKZoGGCkB0D0CMUFbvkLdxMWZNPLnrQ&dib_tag=se&qid=1764253977&refinements=p_89%3ALttrbx.&sr=8-1&srs=21577410011

the 99-07 had instrument cluster issues specifically with the traces in on the circuit board , I fixed it once , it was a pain and that lasted a year and they just lifted off the board further back , so this was a 40 dollar fix to about 3 hours of my labor

the 89-98 the speedometer is about 10-11% off all the time , I would never get a speeding ticket if I followed it because it is low all the time
I have a slightly different model but I prefer the one I posted it has better on off with voltage so it doesn't run your battery down.

I like skinny even for mud. More down pressure to find something solid underneath.
