You guys that catch fox .What are your preferred size cage trap.I have leg hold but prefer a cage for the areas that I am being asked about. When setting do you brush in the trap or just stabilize the bottom well with local duff and dirt.

I have caught red pups but not adults. The greys go right in, the white poly traps seem to have a lot of eye appeal to them.

Teds will go into 11x9x30 Comstock’s without issue. Nothing different than trapping a skunk.

Yes, double door traps. I didn’t set them up any different than I would with a skunk or woodchuck. I make sure it doesn’t rock, and there’s no way around the trap. Positive sets.

The last time I set the den musk was so strong I thought it was a skunk, and I had it the next morning.

Most of the time we get a fox call, we use noise to chase it away. They’ll leave pretty easily.

Pups at a den site . . . normally is fairly easy until then are old enough to leave the denning area.
Red fox as an adult, no so much . . . (although I have caught a few)

Live bait , not a problem when you raise pigeons, has helped in the right set up and a larger trap.
Still, not a guarantee

I have caught quite a few fox in a domestic setting. Most of these were close to the den site, with the pups wandering around as they do.

They are very curious to all new things. Sights, sounds, objects and smells. I used mostly single door Safeguard traps in our business. They are powered door traps. Blending and guideing into the traps will greatly increase your catch potential.

Adults are a different story as they can be more cautious and require a bit more coaxing to enter the traps. I have caught many over the years but it can be done. If they are frequently being drawn to a specific area your chances are increased greatly.

I used ckn and duck feathers and meats for the attraction with some gland and urine to spice up the sets.
