A fine little hunting rifle. We like to argue every deer season about the Marlin vs the Winchester. Both do the job really well. You're sure to enjoy it. What's to argue, Winchester's are a John Moses Browning, blessed be his name, design.

I never understood the need for a safety on a lever gun with a hammer. I have a JM 336 new enough to have a safety. Gun also has the half c o c k feature to carry loaded. I bought safety removal part. Easy to install and no more forgetting to check the safety after pulling the hammer back.
Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

SaFty on a hammer gun is one of the dumbest lawyer gun things.

The safety can be eliminated. I killed my first buck with a marlin back in the early 80’s. Still have a couple in 30/30 and 35 rem. Been looking for a clean one in 32 win special that I can justify.
They are very good rifles.

I never owned a 30-30. But I have a marlin 357 Magnum that is a great gun. It was my go-to gun when I wanted to shoot problem beavers (I know you aren't supposed to shoot a rifle in water but --).
When I was in high school my best friend got a Model 94 Winchester 30-30 and was dying to kill something. We weren't a mile out of town on the highway and a raven flew over. He jerked to a stop, jumped out and levered one in and shot and missed. I was in the middle of saying you will never hit it when, he levered another round in and killed it stone dead. I don't know which of us was more shocked.
Go kill something with it Smash.
United we stand.
