Body grips in spillways catch a lot of sticks. The bank/dam edges are usually where the action is, and footholds on the top of the dam can be good.

A foothold in the spillway on top of dam in center world good? Or 2 footholds side by side?

Check both of the edges for travel ways, since it’s freezing the swift water will freeze last so use it. Pinch points with the traps out of the water and mud so they don’t freeze down that way. Old stove pipe just keep it dry and brush in around it making going through it the easy route.

Mink like the edges for protection from predators.

So the center spillway is not a good location on the dam? I have not much experience with beaver dams

I’ve caught most of my mink closer to the banks for the reasons previously mentioned. Pocket or blind sets above and below dams are deadly for mink, rats and coons.

Law Dog is right on. And beware of otters if they aren't legal where you trap.

Bank edge is better, yes. And as for beaver in the spillway, I have had more than one trap set there that became part of the dam.

It we'll be froze up on the sides soon, so spillway is not best location?

Left, right, south, north and even east and west if the bare metric pressure is sub sonic….but that happens more often rarer. Then you need to play the vertical gambrel to kept a normal ration.

And that isn’t key factor if want succeeded

Not the best but put a trap there but anchor for a beaver if you do if it’s flowing. Mink sets don’t need to be strictly in water you can set 110 or 120s in the trails on the edges or clear a spot for a foothold then narrow everything around the set so the the trap is the easiest route to go.
