I bought a old wood stove , really nice small one for my cabin out back, just got it hook up started a fire and found out that they spray painted it with regular paint not high temp, [Linked Image]
I should have put fire in it outside before I brought it inside

That sucks Roy. How bad were the fumes coming off of it?

I wish I had it!!! I got one in an old cabin that is just about fallen in. It is bad shape what was tin is all rusted out. Some parts have been taken and I have a few of them myself. A three room cabin right on the river I wish that old shack could talk.

If it were me I would take it back out and burn it off outside. The whole thing needs to be burned off or paint removed some how. The heating of that stove will burn off that paint for many years. The upper part will give of fumes foreveah. Just my 2¢

I'd take it back outside, use a liquid stripper on it, let it soak about fifteen minutes, then hose it off with water. If it needs a second coat, scub it with a soft wire brush before spraying off with water. Take it back inside and let it dry overnight, at least, then wipe the whole thing down with acetone, repaint with high temp, or just use it bare for a year before repainting.

That's a cool old stove. Even if you have to take it outside to cook of the paint, it was a good find

Even the high temp paint will give off fumes when it’s first fired.

Eh...wot?

Yea I would not waste time trying to cook it off inside, it will taint the whole place !!

Take it back outside and light it up hot for a while and then take a wire brush to it to get the burn off removed

Then do what you need to it !

At this point I’d keep going, just keep a low fire and it’ll clean itself up.

That whole top part and you could take off unbolt and sand blast it clean it up from any paint. The fumes are toxic but whole stove should go out and done outside of home.
