I think the idea is to start with a dry, dirty coon, not a wet one.

Yes. The tumbler isn't to dry the coon, just clean it up.

A leaf blower is a quick, easy way to dry animals. The more powerful the better.

A tumbler is invaluable for cleaning fur. A real fur tumbler is best, but a repurposed dryer is a good, cheap alternative.
