We got a dusting of snow last night, not more than half an inch. When I went to check the traps this morning there were tracks all around a couple of them set on two track intersections, one it looks like they worked and was popped closed the other two it looks like they were traveling and just blew right on past. Do you make any changes when you see this happening or just leave them and hope theyll stop one of these days? I didnt think there were as many coyotes and foxes out there but I sure was humbled on that fact this mornin.

Game cameras and new snow have broke a lot of trappers hearts.

Trail cameras and fresh snow have broke a lot of trapper’s hearts.

I'd leave them if it were me. Tracks in the snow is one reason I'll often set on good location even if I don't find or can't see sign. Often there are critters if the location is good but you may not see sign. Snow is a game changer and yes can be very humbling.

Snow is very humbling especially for those that only get it occasionally. Personally id be changing something if you want to catch the ones that walk by a set, that is if they walked downwind of it. My personal experience leads me to believe the first encounter usually produces the most intrest and it only wanes from there. The exception being if they get desperate for food and have to check it out. My question would be are they on to the game or if the attractant just wasn't that attractive. For me if they just blow past it without breaking stride they either didn't smell it or they have previously checked it out and their isnt any intrest now. Usually a coyote will at least check out a set even from a safe distance the first time they encounter it even if they are on to the game or if the attractant doesn't produce enough intrest to get them to commit. I suspect a lot of times when we "just wait them out" its usually a different coyote we catch that makes us think we finally caught them.
