Anyone still using lights for night hunting ? Seems eveyone has moved to NV and thermal

I still do occasionally, depends on conditions.

No lights here any more....since prices dropped I just call during the daylight now.

Ant think of a condition I’d need to or even want to anymore. It worked ok on hogs but it seemed there were too many shadows being cast for coyotes.

Lights work fine, ive taken a lot of critters calling that way until…
I was control shooting on a spread in eastern Montana before NV or thermal were an option. I had a good light system for that time.

I went out as usual from the headquarters after dark along the ranch two tracks maybe 5-6 miles out to a pre determined spot and set up and started the nights first call. Wasn’t long when the periphery light picked up eyes coming in then the hint of canine shape. For whatever reason I held off, and when it kept coming I dropped the main beam on it and found it was the ranchers cow dog that for some reason followed me out that far.
I never hunted open range in the dark after that. If I can’t get it done in the daylight so be it.

I have since shot a few nights on large spreads in Texas, all night lite rigs but I was never comfortable with it. Never want to kill someone’s cow dog, landowner/manager/ or neighbors.
