Hello all.

I got a big beaver yesterday and kept the meat. I froze it all except the back section which I made into soup.

Question: When scraping the hide today I noticed either a Big lesion or bite-mark that was infected.... some two holes let's say near front leg.

Should I toss all the meat or just throw away those front two legs?

Thanks.

If you don't see anything wrong with the meat, when you removed it, it still will be good

A long cooked stew should cover anything...I'd eat it...or you can use it for bait.

So long as the critter looked healthy overall, I wouldn't let a small wound like that bother me. I would do as Savell says, and just make sure you get it to temp. That being said, I'm not a veterinarian or USDA meat inspector.

Thanks!

I did not see anything wrong with the meat when I froze it. So I just threw away the front legs and kept everything else.

Thank you all for the reassurance!

That meat is fine but I wouldn't eat the putrified parts.

… doesn’t like like any of the meat was affected…. Just a superficial wound in the hide
